Torque converter (Focus 1)

A new torque converter should be installed if one or more of the following statements are true:
  • Based on the diagnostic procedures performed, a malfunction of the torque converter was detected.
  • The impeller hub or bushing is damaged.
  • If there is a change in the color of the torque converter (due to overheating).
  • When performing the following tests, it is determined that the torque converter characteristics are not within specification:
    • Checking the axial clearance of the torque converter
    • Checking for leaks in the torque converter
  • If there is evidence of transaxle damage or transmission fluid contamination due to the following transaxle or torque converter faults:
    • major defect of metal elements
    • malfunctions of multi-plate clutches or discs
    • wear of the element, which leads to contamination with metal particles
