A new torque converter should be installed if one or more of the following statements are true:
- Based on the diagnostic procedures performed, a malfunction of the torque converter was detected.
- The impeller hub or bushing is damaged.
- If there is a change in the color of the torque converter (due to overheating).
- When performing the following tests, it is determined that the torque converter characteristics are not within specification:
- Checking the axial clearance of the torque converter
- Checking for leaks in the torque converter
- If there is evidence of transaxle damage or transmission fluid contamination due to the following transaxle or torque converter faults:
- major defect of metal elements
- malfunctions of multi-plate clutches or discs
- wear of the element, which leads to contamination with metal particles
