Inspection and verification
1. Check the validity of the customer's complaint by activating the system.
2. Perform a visual check for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
Visual Inspection Table
Mechanical factors |
Electrical Factors |
– Ignition lock cylinder – PATS key (with blue insert) – Using a key that does not belong to the PATS system – Multiple PATS keys or metal objects in the keychain (shielding the key with metal objects) – Using an uncoded ignition key – Using an unprogrammed, coded ignition key |
– Central connection box (CJB), fuse 12 (15 A) – Battery connection box (BJB), fuse 9 (20 A) – PCM module – Ignition switch – Loose or corroded connector (s) – PATS transmitter - Starter relay |
3. If there is an obvious cause for a noted or received complaint, troubleshoot (if it is possible) before moving on to the next step.
4. If the cause of the problem is not obvious, check the symptom and use the FDS 2000 along with the following Symptom Table and Pinpoint tests.

• Theft Deterrent System Warning Light Constantly On/Does Not Turn On - Theft Deterrent Warning Light does not indicate the status of the system. |
• Fuse. • Chain. • Light-emitting diode (LED) anti-theft system. • PCM. |
• Perform a PATS check using the FDS 2000. Follow the instructions. |
• The anti-theft system is malfunctioning - the engine will not crank, but the anti-theft system LED correctly indicates the status of the system. |
• Starter relay. • PCM module. • Chain. |
• GO to Pinpoint Test B. |
• Engine does not start |
• Complaint not related to PATS (no fuel etc.) • Complaint related to PATS |
• If the complaint is about PATS, check the fault code flashing LED or run a PATS test using the FDS 2000. Follow the instructions. |
