General equipment: Gearbox jack.
Removal
All cars
1. Center the steering wheel. Remove the ignition key and lock the steering wheel in this position.

Cars manufactured up to 12.1998.
2. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- 1.Loosen the top bolt.
- 2. Unscrew the lower bolt.
- 3. Move the sleeve up.

Cars manufactured since 12.1998.
3. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- 1. Unscrew the bolt.
- 2. Disconnect the steering gear pinion shaft from the steering column.

All cars
4. Remove the tie rod end mounting nuts (the wheel has been removed for clarity).

CAUTION: When separating the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles, wrap them in a cloth to prevent damage to the ball joint seals.
Using a special tool, disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.

6. Disconnect the anti-roll bar connecting arms from the struts and spring assemblies.

Diesel Engine Cars
7. Remove the engine protection.
All cars

NOTE: Diesel engine version shown, other versions are similar.
Remove the central bolt securing the support cushion to the gearbox in the block with the driving axle.

NOTE: Right hand drive version shown, left hand drive version is similar.
Remove the steering gear heat shield. Remove the two bolts.

10.
NOTE: Left hand drive version shown, right hand drive version is similar.
Disconnect the hose clamp. Remove the screw.

11.
NOTE: Right hand drive version shown, left hand drive version is similar.
Disconnect the power steering hoses from the steering gear.
- 1. Unscrew the bolt.
- 2.Turn the clamping bar.
- Allow the liquid to drain into a suitable container.

12. Support the crossmember with a suitable transmission jack.
13. Remove the six crossmember bolts (the support is not shown).

14. Lower the cross member.

15. Remove the steering column shaft with coupling and floor seal.
- 1. Disconnect the floor seal from the steering gear housing. Release the clamps.
- 2. Unscrew the bolt.

NOTE: Left hand drive version shown, right hand drive version is similar.
Remove the steering gear.

Installation
All cars
1.
NOTE: Check the O-rings for wear, cuts or cracks.
Install new O-rings if necessary.

CAUTION: Make sure the discharge valve is installed correctly in the valve block.
Install the steering gear.

NOTE: Visually inspect the floor seal before installation. Make sure the sealing surface of the floor seal is clean and free from deformation. The foam section of the floor seal should be (25-30) mm. If the value is less than the prescribed value, install a new floor seal.
NOTE: Make sure the floor seal is properly positioned on the steering gear housing.
Install the steering column shaft with coupling and floor seal.

4. Using special tools, check the position of the crossbar.
- 1.Insert the guide pins into the crossmember alignment holes.
- 2.Insert the locking strips into the grooves and tighten the guide pin bushings.
- 3. Raise the crossmember by inserting the guide pins into the chassis alignment holes.

5. Install the crossmember bolts.

6. Remove the jack.
7. Remove the subframe alignment pins.
8. Install the power steering hoses. Install the hoses and turn the clamp bar.

9. Install the hose support clamp.

10. Install the steering gear heat shield.

Install the center bolt of the support cushion.

Diesel Engine Cars
12. Install the engine protection.
All cars
13. Connect the anti-roll bar connecting arms to the strut assemblies with springs.

14. Install the tie rod ends.

CAUTION: Before lowering the vehicle, make sure the steering is in the straight ahead position.
Lower the car.
Cars manufactured up to 12.1998.
16.
WARNING: Install a new clamp bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear pinion shaft.

Cars manufactured since 12.1998.
17.
WARNING: Install a new clamp bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear pinion shaft.

All cars
18. Fill the power steering system with fluid. For more information, refer to the Pump/Steering Gear Overhaul Starting Procedure section in this section.
19. Check wheel alignment. Refer to Section 204-00 for additional information.
