Steering gear bushing — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Special tool

	Bushing Puller/Installer 205-297 (15-086)
	Wheel hub installation tool 204-148 (14-037)

Removal

1. Remove the steering gear. For more information, refer to the Power Steering Gear chapter in this section.

2. Using a special tool, remove the support bushings.



3. Thoroughly clean and visually inspect the bushing housing for signs of damage. If the housing is damaged, install a new steering gear. For more information, refer to the Power Steering Gear chapter in this section.

Installation

All cars

NOTE: Lubricate the new bushing with a suitable rubber lubricant.

Using the special tool, install new support bushings.



Left-hand drive vehicles



2. Using special tools, ensure that the support bushings are installed at the correct depth.



Right hand drive vehicles

3. Using special tools, ensure that the support bushings are installed at the correct depth.
