Five-speed manual transmission

            0

As standard, the Focus comes with five-speed manual transmissions. Depending on the engine, an iB5 manual transmission is used (1.4-1.8 l), gearbox МТХ-75 (2.0L Zetec-E; 1.8 L Endura-Turbodiesel) or, only in combination with Zetec-SE 1.6L, automatic transmission 4F27E. All forward gears in the iB5 gearbox are fully synchronized, the first two gears even with double synchronization. All «mobile» gear wheels rotate in plain bearings. In the MTX-75 gearbox, the gears rotate on needle bearings. In addition, the reverse gear is also synchronized, gears 1 to 3 have double synchronization. It consists of an internal synchronizer blocking ring, a conical ring, an external synchronizer blocking ring and a synchronous body. The transmission gear does not have a conical surface: synchronization is carried out with the help of synchronizer blocking rings and a conical ring connected with a positive lock to the transmission gear.

Dual Sync: 1 - transmission gear; 2 - internal blocking ring of the synchronizer; 3 - conical ring; 4 - external blocking ring of the synchronizer; 5 - synchronous body.

Versatile: Ford is putting different variants of the iB5 gearbox in the Ka and Fiesta models as well. The main difference from the Focus lies in the shifting mechanism: instead of a shifting linkage in the Focus, the gears are brought together by cables. 1 - clutch master cylinder; 2 - gearbox ventilation; 3 - input shaft; 4 - output shaft; 5 - differential.
