Noises in the gearbox

            0

Howling or grinding noises in the gearbox almost always indicate worn gears or bearings. In the Focus, noise in the gearbox occurs mainly at high mileage. But before embarking on a costly repair, check the gear oil level first.

From experience, howling or grinding sounds in only one gear indicate wear on the gears or gear bearing in that gear. Noises during operation in all gears - most often a sign of wear in the main gear or in the bearings of the gearbox.

Scraping noises when shifting gears indicate wear on the synchronizer rings or «sticky» clutch disc. Synchronization in lower gears is subjected to a special load.
