The upcoming repair announces itself: worn wheel bearings cannot be ignored by the loud noise. Grinding noises on right turns indicate a defective wheel bearing on the left front, noise on left turns indicates a defect in the right wheel bearing. Better imagine a workshop replacement: the bearings, their races, the hub and steering swivel bearing are made to very tight tolerances. Professional installation requires special tools. But before contacting the workshop, do the following test:
- Park the vehicle on a rocky or paved surface. Grasp the wheel at the top edge and try to rhythmically move it across the longitudinal axis of the car. Flawless bearings endure it silently and without play.
- If you notice play in the front wheel bearings: have a helper apply the brakes and recheck. If there is still play, then you are dealing with a defective bearing.
