Telescopic shock absorber — design description

            0

Your Focus rests on so-called telescopic shock absorbers. They consist of a working cylinder in which a working piston, fitted with a rod, slides up and down. The slave cylinder is surrounded by a second cylinder which serves as a reservoir for the hydraulic oil.

Compression Stage: The piston moves down and on its way forces the hydraulic oil through the valve into the space above the piston. Valve parameters determine the resistance (wheel damping), which the working piston must overcome.

Extension stage: the unloaded spring returns the working piston to its original position. In this case, the oil displaced over the piston is returned through the bottom valve back to the storage. The valve determines the resistance (wheel damping), which the working piston must overcome.

Telescopic shock absorber (cross section): 1 - Top mount with elastic rubber support. 2 - Protective tube. 3 - Piston rod. 4 - Piston rod guide with gasket. 5 - Working cylinder. 6 - Valves in the piston with elastic valve washers. 7 - Outer pipe. 8 - Bottom valve with check valve and elastic washers of the valve. 9 - Bottom fastening.
