Remove the wing niche trim in the body.
Unscrew the lower column mounting bolts (Fig. 4.23).

Disassemble the upper suspension column mount (Fig. 4.24).

Remove the column.
Disassemble the column using the description below.
Secure the spring compressor 14-018 in a vice (Fig. 4.25).

Place the spring with the suspension column in the 14-018 fixture.
Compress the spring so that its ends are released.
Unscrew the upper transverse bolt (Fig. 4.26) and remove the disc washer. Remove the shock absorber.

Insert the new shock absorber and assemble the column (Fig. 4.27).

Screw in the cross bolt and tighten it firmly.
Loosen the spring compressor. Pay attention to the correct placement of the spring ends.
Install the column back into the vehicle.
Tighten all bolted connections to the correct tightening torques under load, i.e. after the car is positioned with the rear wheels on the floor.
