Replacing the rear shock absorber (Mondeo 4)

You will need: socket heads "10", "18", open-end wrench "13", pliers.

WARNING: Replace shock absorbers (left and right) in pairs.


1. Apply the parking brake and place wheel chocks under the front wheels.

2. Raise the rear of the vehicle, place it on secure supports and remove the wheel.

3. Place a jack or telescopic stand under the lower arm of the rear suspension and lift the arm slightly to relieve the shock absorber.

7. Unscrew the nut securing the upper support to the shock absorber, holding the rod from turning..

8….and remove the support assembly with the compression buffer and protective cover.

9. Disconnect the protective cover and compression buffer.

10. Inspect the protective cover. Replace the damaged cover.

11. Disconnect the compression buffer and the shock absorber mounting bracket.

12. Inspect the compression buffer. Replace any hardened, cracked or deformed buffer with a new one.

13. Check the condition of the rubber bushing of the support. If the bushing is damaged or badly worn, replace the support with a new one.



14. Install the shock absorber in the reverse order of removal.

15. Replace the second shock absorber in the same way.
