Replacing the front lower control arm of the rear suspension (Mondeo 4)

You will need: a 15 mm socket head, a spacer (see item 2).

1. Remove the rear suspension spring (see Replacing the rear suspension spring).

2. Install a 226mm high and 40mm wide spacer between the rear lower arm of the rear suspension and the upper spring plate, clamp it by loading the suspension (for example, by jacking up the arm).

3. Remove the bolt securing the front lower arm to the trailing arm…

5….and remove the front lower arm of the rear suspension.

6. Carefully inspect the lever, replace the deformed lever. Signs of wear of the silent blocks are breaks, one-sided bulging and peeling of the rubber from the metal bushing. To replace the silent blocks, you will need pullers of the appropriate size.

7. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: The "FRONT" stamped on the front lower control arm of the rear suspension must face forward in the direction of vehicle travel.


After replacing the front lower arm of the rear suspension, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles (see Checking and adjusting wheel alignment angles). Use the services of workshops that have special equipment.
