Withdrawal
1. Support the front wheels with wedges. Then lift the back of the car and place it on supports. Remove the corresponding rear wheel.
2. Install a mobile jack under the lower rear suspension arm (at the location of the spring) to keep the spring compressed.
3. Turn out a bolt of the bottom support of the shock-absorber (see fig. 19.3).
4. Turn out a bolt of the top support and remove the shock-absorber from the car.
Examination
5. Check rubber mounts for damage or breakage. They can be replaced separately.
6. Install the shock absorber in a vise. Check it for leaks. Check out how it works. While holding the shock absorber upright, move the piston from lock to lock, and then back and forth by 50-100 mm. In both cases, you should feel a uniform and constant resistance to the movement of the piston. If you feel jerks or uneven resistance, then the shock absorber needs to be replaced.
Installation
7. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the bolts to the required torque.
