Rear shock absorbers (station wagon) — removal and installation

Withdrawal


1. Remove the optional rear compartment panels.

2. Loosen, but do not remove, the upper shock mounting nut (see picture). You should use locking pliers to keep the shock absorber rod from turning.

3. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the car, place it on stands. Block the front wheels and remove the rear wheel.

4. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it slightly (just enough to take some of the weight off). Unscrew the two lower nuts securing the shock absorber - from under the lower arm (see picture).

5. Unscrew the top nut of fastening of the shock-absorber, remove it from the car.

Installation


6. Check rubber pads for cracks and wear Replace any worn parts.

7. Put the belleville washer and rubber pad on the shock absorber rod, guide the shock absorber into the seat by inserting the shock absorber rod into the hole in the frame.

Compress the shock absorber and install its lower end into the lower arm. Tighten the nuts, tighten them securely.

8. Install the top rubber pad, washer and nut. Tighten the nut properly.

9. Place the wheel, screw on the support nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the nuts to the correct torque.
