Warning: If suspension or steering fasteners are lost or loosened, they must be replaced with new ones; do not reuse them. Fasteners must be replaced with new ones of the same design, quality and marking.
Removal
1. Loosen the wheel nuts, lift the car, place it on stands. Block the front wheels and remove the rear wheel.
2. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it to its normal height.
3. Unscrew the brake hose bracket from the frame (see figure).
4. Loosen the fastener, but do not remove the nut connecting the upper arm to the hub (see figure).
5. Loosen, but do not remove, the nut securing the lower arm to the shaft.
6. Remove the front and rear pivot bolts and nuts between the upper arm and the frame.
7. Unscrew the drum brake cam and block outward and hang it on a wire so that it does not fall.
8. Unscrew the nut that attaches the upper arms to the knuckle and disconnect the arms.
Installation
9. Connect the upper control arms to the knuckle, screw on the new nut. Do not tighten it yet.
10. Place the upper control arms in the frame brackets and install the pivot bolts and nuts, tightening them to the required torque. Remove the wire.
11. Tighten the nut securing the knuckle to the upper arms to the required torque.
12. Tighten the lower arm-to-knuckle mounting nut to the required torque.
13. Fasten the brake hose bracket to the frame and tighten the bolt securely.
14. Install the wheel. Lower the vehicle, tighten the nuts to the required tightening torque.
15. Check the toe-in of the rear wheels and adjust if necessary.
