Note: in chapter 1 provides information on servicing models produced in 1989 and earlier.
1. 1990 and later models are equipped with sealed rear wheel bearings that do not require maintenance. They are replaced if they become noisy or have significant play (for more information, see chapter 1 (see the section on checking the suspension and steering).
2. Loosen the wheel nuts, lift the car, place it on stands. Block the front wheels and remove the rear wheel.
3. Remove the rear brake drum or disc (see chapter 9).
4. Remove the grease cap from the center of the hub. Discard the cap.
5. Unscrew the hub lock nut and remove the hub and bearing block from the knuckle. Based on the degree of wear on the hub, determine whether a new bearing can be pressed into the old hub or whether the entire hub block should be replaced.
6. Installation of the hub and bearing block is generally carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten the hub lock nut to the specified tightening torque and install a new grease cap.
