Rear wishbones (sedan) — removal and installation (Taurus 1 and 2)

Warning: If suspension or steering fasteners are lost or loosened, they must be replaced with new ones; do not reuse them. Fasteners must be replaced with new ones of the same design, quality and marking.

Removal


1. Loosen the wheel nuts, lift the rear of the car, securely place it on stands. Block the front wheels, remove the rear wheel.

4. While supporting the lever, unscrew the inner mounting bolt and nut.



Caution: The edges of the stamped levers are very sharp.


5. Remove the control lever from the vehicle.

Installation


6. When installing both the left and right front control arms, position the arms with the tab facing up and the flange facing back, then install the new inner mounting bolt. When installing the right rear control arm, the tabs should also be facing up, but the flange should be facing the front of the car (see pictures).

7. From the inside, insert a new bolt through the lever and the knuckle, fastening the lever to the hub. Install a new washer and nut, tighten by hand.

8. Place a jack under the shaft and raise the knuckle to the normal height.

9. Visually check the alignment marks on the toe adjuster washer, then tighten the inner mounting bolt to the specified torque.



10. Tighten the outer nut to the specified torque.

11. Install the wheel and screw on the nuts, lower the car. Tighten the nuts to the required tightening torque.
