Warning: Before removing the beam, prepare a device for compressing the coil springs. Do not use improvised means, as this may cause the spring to jump out, which may cause injury. After removing the spring with the device, leave it in it in a secure, closed place.
Removal
1. Support the front wheels, lift the rear of the car and place it on supports. Remove both rear wheels.
2. Remove the entire exhaust system (chapter 4).
3. Unscrew the bolts securing the reaction arms to the rear suspension axle supports and disconnect the arms.
4. Unscrew the nuts securing the anti-roll bar connecting links to the front lower arms. Hold the connecting links while unscrewing the nuts. Tilt the stabilizer upward and remove the rubber bushings.
5. Remove the ABS wheel sensor (if equipped) from the rear suspension axle support (chapter 9).
6. Remove the bolts and disconnect both lower arms from the axle support.
7. To release the suspension strut from the rubber bumper mounted on the beam, you need to compress the compressor spring so that it does not press on the upper and lower supports.
Warning: Use reliable spring compressors.
8. After compressing the springs of both struts, support the rear suspension beam with a mobile jack. Then unscrew the four bolts from the bottom (see Fig. 16.8).
9. Lower the beam to the ground.
10. Remove the bolts securing the stabilizer bar clamps to the suspension beam. Then remove the clamps and stabilizer.
11. Remove the lower arms from the beam (paragraph 14).
Installation
12. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. To accurately align the beam relative to the bottom, the Ford 15-097 device is recommended. Buy it, since inaccurate alignment of the beam can lead to poor vehicle control and excessive tire wear. The mounting bolts of the levers and reaction levers must be pre-tightened. They should be tightened only after the car is installed on the ground and the suspension is loaded. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as soon as possible.
