Removing the rear cover

Mounting or dismounting is facilitated by double articulations (except for stepped back model). Their design makes it possible to have an increased size of the gap between the rear cover and the roof during installation work.

Stages of work



Disconnect the battery.

Dismantle the lining of the trunk assembly with the grip tapes.

Disconnect the wire connectors to the heated rear window and rear wiper. Disconnect the water hose from the washer nozzle.

Support the back cover.

Press the gas-filled shock absorbers from the ball head of the holder. To do this, slightly lift the mounting bracket so that the shock absorber can be removed from the ball head.

Mark the position of the rear cover hinges with a felt-tip pen.

Unscrew the fixing bolts and remove the cover with an assistant.

When assembling, first tighten the fixing bolts only slightly. Align the cover and the dimensions of the slots.

Tighten the fixing bolts to 10 Nm.

Complete installation in reverse order.

To make it easier to install new «entrails» rear cover, lengthen with twine all disconnected connections already during dismantling. Then pull the lead wires out of the cover at the other end along with the tied twine. Let twine of sufficient length dangle from both sides of the cover, since you will attach new parts to it for subsequent installation. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - the twine functions as «pioneer» for wires and hoses.


Replacing the rubber seal



If you have already taken up the back cover, then also immediately check the back cover seal: traces of dust and water leaks on both sides of the sealing surface indicate leaky areas. If the seal is brittle or cracked, install a new fitting on your vehicle. To do this, completely remove the old part and clean the fold from the remnants of the old seal and dirt.

Press the new sealant sparingly into the seal groove (e.g. joint sealant, silicone). Place the seal in the middle of the lock and press around the perimeter. Cut off the protruding end, as needed, with side cutters. The final butt joint should be under slight pretension. Carefully tap the installed seal with a rubber mallet.
