Technical characteristics of the brake system (Sierra)

            0

Since November 1988, all versions can be equipped with an anti-lock braking system.

The service brake with anti-lock braking system is hydraulically actuated by a dual-circuit master brake cylinder (tandem type) and additionally by a hydraulic auxiliary device.

The hydraulic circuits of the front right and left brakes are separated and controlled by the master cylinder. The rear brakes (in the "Y" system) are controlled by a hydraulic auxiliary device.

The handbrake is mechanically actuated (by cable), is characterized by automatic clearance elimination and acts on the rear brake mechanisms.

Front brakes

The front brakes are disc brakes. They use ventilated discs and floating single-piston calipers.

Support

Brand and type: Ford 2L 232. Piston diameter: 60 mm.

Disk

Outer diameter: 240 mm.

Thickness:
  • nominal: 24 mm;
  • nominal allowable: 22 mm.

Maximum disc runout: 0.15 mm.

Brake pads

Brand and type of pads: Ferodo 343 25 FF. Nominal thickness: 18 mm.

Nominal allowable thickness: determined by the wear of the groove on the surface of the brake pad.

Rear brakes

The rear brakes are disc brakes. They are equipped with full discs and floating calipers with one piston.

Support

Brand and type: Ford L2 9024. Piston diameter: 43 mm.

Disk

Outer diameter: 252.7 mm.

Thickness:
  • nominal: 10.1 mm;
  • nominal allowable: 8.9 mm.

Maximum disc runout: 0.15 mm.

Brake pads

Brand and type of pads: DON 8106/1. Nominal thickness: 13.5 mm.

Nominal allowable thickness: determined by the wear of the groove on the surface of the brake pad.

Drive system

The system that operates the service brake is hydraulic, contains a dual-circuit master brake cylinder and a hydraulic auxiliary device, as well as an anti-lock braking system.

Brand: ABS Teves. Electronic control unit: Teves.

Wheel speed sensor resistance: 0.8–1.4 Ohm.

Control pressure: 4–9 MPa.

Brake fluid

Quantity: 1.4 dm³.

Type: brake fluid Ford SAM 6C 9103 A.

Replacement frequency: every 60,000 km or once every two years.
