This section applies only to changes made to the design of Ford Sierra vehicles with four-cylinder gasoline engines from the 1987 model year through the 1989 model year.

Technical specifications, as well as descriptions of adjustments and repairs that are not subject to change, are located in the previous sections.

In the second half of 1986, two special versions were introduced: Laser and Laser Touring, differing in equipment. Both versions use 1.6 or 1.8 dm³ ONS engines and four-speed gearboxes.

In January 1987, the second generation of Ford Sierra cars was launched. The body of the Sierra cars mod. 87 introduced a new front styling. The hood is lowered to the level of the front bumper and covers the complex headlights with large front turn signal glasses. The windshield surface is also increased, thus improving the driver's field of vision.

The doors of the second generation models have been given lateral reinforcement.

The model's range has been expanded, adding to the two-volume bodies (five-door Berlina, five-door station wagon and three-door coupe) a version with a three-volume four-door (sedan) body with a separate trunk.

Sierra cars mod. 87 are offered with petrol engines OHC: 1.6 dm³ (55 kW), 1.8 dm³ (66 kW), 2.0 dm³ carburetor (77 kW) and 2.0 dm³ with fuel injection (85 kW).

Models 1988

In January 1988, the Sierra GT version was introduced, with a limited number of units, with a 2.0 dm³ engine producing 77 kW at 5200 rpm.

Characteristic features of this version were: an opening hatch, tinted glass, an outside rear-view mirror painted in the same color as the body, as well as side reinforcements that went down to the bottom of the doors.

In May 1988, the ONS 1.8 dm³ engine was replaced by a CVH 1.8 dm³ engine with a power of 66 kW at 5250 rpm.

The characteristic features of this engine, which distinguish it from the OHC engines, are: the ignition distributor, mounted horizontally on the front end of the camshaft, and the carburetor, located on the right side of the engine (looking in the direction of travel).

Models 1989

In December 1988, a new five-speed manual transmission of the MT 75 type was installed. It has a light alloy housing instead of cast iron, and its design was significantly changed compared to the previously installed transmission.

In April 1989, a new DOHC 2.0 dm³ engine with two camshafts in the cylinder head, called "TWIN-CAM", was introduced.

This engine can use both leaded (in the version without an exhaust gas catalyst) and unleaded gasoline. With a carburetor, it develops a power of 66 kW, and with Ford Motorcraft EFI fuel injection, a power of 92 kW.
