Ford's Electronic Engine Control (EDC) regulates the engine's injection advance angle under different operating conditions and also controls exhaust gas recirculation to limit nitrogen oxide emissions in the exhaust gases.
The electronic control device, based on the data contained in its memory, as well as information about the engine operating conditions received from individual sensors, transmits the necessary instructions to the actuators.
