Sensors (Escort 5)

In the engine control circuit, there are two types of sensors, active and passive, which differ in their operating principle. Active sensors do not require external power supply. Whereas passive sensors must have power supply to generate a signal. The electronic control device receives signals about:

• battery voltage measured by the electronic control unit.
• angular position of the fuel pump acceleration lever; the fuel pump acceleration lever position potentiometer sensor, which has a 5 V supply, transmits a voltage signal with a variable value depending on the position of this lever.
• crankshaft speed, the inductive speed sensor located on the generator transmits a sinusoidal voltage that changes proportionally to the engine crankshaft speed.
• coolant temperature; a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor coolant temperature sensor provides a voltage signal that increases as engine temperature increases.
