Cylinder head cover

Since October 1987 (production date code "HU") all diesel engines 2.3 in.3 are equipped with a new type of cylinder head cover and gasket (silicone material).

Attention! A new cylinder head gasket can be reused provided it is removed very carefully and is not damaged during removal.

When installing a new type of gasket, proceed as follows.

1. Thoroughly clean all contact surfaces of the gasket with the cylinder head and cover; remove all remnants of the old type gasket.

2. Apply a line of blue sealing paste to the sealing surface of the cylinder head cover (packaged with gasket) 1.5–2 mm wide.

3. Install the gasket on the cylinder head cover and wait 45 minutes for the sealing paste to dry.

4. Lubricate the contact surface of the cover gasket with oil on the cylinder head

5. Install the cover and tighten the nuts securing the cover to 4 Nm.

Attention! Exceeding this torque on the nuts will damage the gasket.

V-belts for driving engine components

Tension adjustment

For normal operation of engine units driven by V-belts, the appropriate tension of these belts is required.

Attention! If you do not have a special device for checking the tension of the V-belts, then you should adjust them in such a way that when you press with your thumb at half of the largest segment, the belts bend by 4 mm.

V-belt tension

Belt type

Flywheel

It is recommended to tighten the flywheel mounting bolts "to the cross" and in two steps:
  • Stage 1: torque 20 Nm;
  • Stage 2: torque 100 Nm.

Other information regarding the technical characteristics, adjustment and repair of a diesel engine 2.3 dm3 is given in subsection 4.2.
