Cylinder head cover

Since October 1987 (manufacturing date code "HU") all 2.3 dm³ diesel engines have been equipped with a new type of cylinder head cover and gasket (made of silicone material).

Caution! A new cylinder head gasket can be used multiple times, provided that it is removed very carefully and is not damaged during removal.

When installing a new type of gasket, proceed as follows.

1. Thoroughly clean all contact surfaces of the gasket with the cylinder head and cover; remove all remnants of the old type gasket.

2. Apply a 1.5–2 mm wide strip of blue sealing paste (included in the package with the gasket) to the sealing surface of the cylinder head cover.

3. Install the gasket on the cylinder head cover and wait 45 minutes until the sealing paste dries.

4. Lubricate the cylinder head cover gasket contact surface with oil

5. Install the cover and tighten the cover mounting nuts to 4 Nm.

Caution: Exceeding this tightening torque will cause damage to the gasket.

V-belts for engine drive units

Tension adjustment

For normal operation of engine units driven by V-belts, appropriate tension of these belts is required.

Attention! If you do not have a special device for checking the tension of V-belts, then you should adjust them so that when you press with your thumb on half of the largest section, the belts bend by 4 mm.

Tensioning V-belts

Flywheel

It is recommended to tighten the flywheel mounting bolts "crosswise" and in two stages:
  • Stage 1: torque 20 Nm;
  • Stage 2: torque 100 Nm.

Other information regarding the technical characteristics, adjustment and repair of the 2.3 dm³ diesel engine is provided in subsection 4.2.
