The main element of the gas distribution system is the camshaft, located in the cylinder head and driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft.
Valve timing (measured at operating valve clearance):
- OZD: 6° before TDC;
- ZZD: 32° after BDC;
- OZW: 57° before BDC;
- ZZW: 7° after TDC.
OZD and ZZD – opening and closing of the intake valve, respectively; OZW and ZZW – opening and closing of the exhaust valve, respectively.
Camshaft
The camshaft is supported by five bearings containing thin-walled liners.
Valve lift:
- inlet: 10 mm;
- outlet: 9 mm.
Axial play: 0.1–0.2 mm.
Bearing journal diameter: 27.960–27.980 mm.
Camshaft bearing clearance: 0.020–0.079 mm.
Toothed belt
The timing belt drives the camshaft, intermediate shaft and coolant pump.
Brand: Motorcraft.
Tension: Automatically adjusted by roller tensioner.
Replacement frequency: every 60,000 km.
