All models have the ability to reduce the ignition advance angle to six degrees without changing the position of the ignition distributor. The adjustment is intended for using fuel of the wrong grade.

Adjustment is made by grounding one or two wires (sometimes called "octane adjustment") that terminate in a multi-pin connector near the ignition coil.

As a result of this adjustment, the dynamic characteristics and efficiency of the engine will decrease. After filling with the required grade of fuel, the adjustment must be returned to its original position.

Grounding the yellow adjuster wire increases idle speed by 75 rpm (OHC) or 50 rpm (V6).
