Removal, installation and tension of a toothed belt (gasoline)

            0

Four-cylinder petrol engine.

As part of the inspection, the toothed belt must be changed every 90,000 km.

Withdrawal

Disconnect the ground wire (-) from the battery.

Attention! As a result, data in electronic storage devices, such as an engine fault memory or a radio code, are erased. Please read the section carefully "Removing and installing the battery", before disconnecting it.

Disconnect the multi-pin connector of the power steering pressure sensor. The sensor is located at the top next to the toothed belt guard.

Disconnect the return and pressure hoses from the power steering oil pump.

Attention! Collect hydraulic oil. Close the holes with plugs.

Raise the vehicle. Unscrew the wheel arch trim -1-. Unscrew the protective cover of the V-belt -2-.

Set crankshaft to top dead center (TDC). To do this, shift the gearbox to neutral, apply the parking brake. Turn the crankshaft by the central bolt until both marks -1- and -2- match.

Unscrew the crankshaft pulley -7-. Hold the crankshaft from turning by engaging first gear and applying the parking brake.

Loosen the four fixing bolts of the belt pulley -5- of the coolant pump, but do not unscrew them yet.

Remove the V-belt see paragraph 1.19.

Unscrew the belt pulley -5- for the coolant pump. If necessary, hold the pump pulley with a clamping band (e.g. HAZET 2170).

Unscrew the guide roller -4- of the V-belt.

Unscrew the fixing bolts of the upper, middle and lower protective covers of the toothed belt.

Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover.

Disconnect all plugs of spark plugs and take them together with wires back.

Unscrew the throttle link bracket on the throttle body.

Unscrew the front engine lifting eye. unscrew the ten fixing bolts of the cylinder head cover and remove the spacers with O-seals.

Lock the camshaft with tool 21-162 or an appropriate ruler at TDC.

Attention! If the specified tool cannot be installed, rotate the crankshaft once.

Release the locking bolt of the toothed belt tensioner and use a socket wrench to press this tensioner away from the toothed belt, i.e. turn the tension roller clockwise. As a result, the tension of the toothed belt is removed. Finally, tighten the locking bolt of the toothed belt again.

Remove the toothed belt.

Installing the belt

Attention! The factory installs the toothed belt tensioner without a spring. If there is no tension spring, then install a new spring with a locking bolt -B- (10 Nm). To do this, release the tensioner and, after installing the spring, return it to its original position.

Install new toothed belt. Start laying it from the crankshaft sprocket and move clockwise.

Attention! The toothed belt tensioner must be tensioned. The toothed belt branch is that part of the toothed belt that is located between the crankshaft sprocket and the exhaust camshaft sprocket.

Tension the toothed belt. To do this, release the locking bolt of the toothed belt tensioner. As a result, the spring tensions the toothed belt. The toothed belt is now correctly tensioned.

Tighten the toothed belt tensioner with a torque of 40 Nm without changing the position of the tension roller.

Remove the adjusting tool 21-162.

Establish and screw the bottom facing of a gear belt.

Install the crankshaft pulley, tighten its fasteners with a torque of 120 Nm

Rotate the crankshaft twice at the center bolt clockwise.

Using the adjusting tool 21-162, recheck the TDC position of the camshaft and crankshaft. The marks on the crankshaft pulley and on the oil pan must match at the same time.

If it is not possible to install the camshaft adjusting tool, then the corresponding camshaft sprocket should be kept from turning with a Ford 15-030A wrench. trying to loosen the fixing bolt. Turn the camshaft carefully until the adjusting tool can be installed. In this position, tighten the toothed belt sprocket to 70 Nm.

Install the cylinder head cover with a new seal, first install the spacers with O-rings. Make sure that the cover fits correctly on the guide bushings. Tighten the bolts first by hand only, then slightly tighten all bolts to 8 Nm.

Install the middle and top timing belt covers. Make sure the middle and bottom covers are properly engaged. Lightly tighten the bolts to 8 Nm.

Connect all four spark plug ends.

Connect the crankshaft ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover.

Screw on the belt pulley for the coolant pump with a tightening torque of 10 Nm.

Screw on the V-belt guide roller with a torque of 50 Nm.

Lay and tighten the V-belt.

Screw on the V-belt cover.

Connect the return and pressure hoses to the power steering oil pump.

Connect the multi-pin plug of the pressure sensor.

Connect the battery ground wire (-).

Fill the hydraulic oil into the power steering reservoir, bleed the reservoir, see 28.4.5.
