The battery is located on the left in the engine compartment.
Warning! When the battery is disconnected in the vehicle, the memory of the following electronic devices is erased:
- The fuel injection control unit erases the engine's operating parameters. For example, the idle speed adjustment parameters individually selected for this engine. Therefore, after connecting the battery, a temporary decrease in the vehicle's running characteristics (engine misfires, idling) is observed.
- All accumulated errors of the injection and ignition systems are erased from the error memory.
- The radio receiver erases the key code for the anti-theft device and transmitters. Anti-theft coding is provided only in serially installed radio receivers. If the anti-theft code is unknown, only a FORD workshop can activate the radio receiver.
To prevent this memory from being erased, the repair shop uses a special cable from Lowener and Mabeco, connected to a 9V dry battery and plugged into the cigarette lighter.
If there is no such wire, then before disconnecting the battery, make sure that the radio anti-theft code has been set and the error memory has been read (work in a repair shop).
Removal
Open the engine hood.
Caution! Before disconnecting the battery cable, make sure all power consumers in the vehicle are disconnected.
Disconnect the battery wires, first the ground wire "1" (-), then the positive wire "2" (+), after first folding up the cover "3".
Unscrew the fastening nuts "4" and remove the retaining plate "5".
Remove battery "6".
Warning! Batteries contain toxic substances, so they cannot be thrown into the city dump. When buying a new battery, return the old battery to the seller or deliver it to a special waste warehouse. Find out its location from the city authorities.
Installation
Before installing the battery, clean its terminals until they shine. To prevent corrosion, lubricate both terminals with a special protective anti-acid grease, such as BOSCH terminal grease.
Install the battery. Secure the retaining plate with nuts.
Attention! Before connecting the battery wires, make sure that all current consumers in the car are disconnected. Otherwise, sparking or damage to electrical equipment may occur when connecting the wires. Pay attention to the strength of the ground connection and the reliability of the contacts. High transition resistances lead, especially when starting the car, to overloading the electronic control devices and may even cause their failure.
Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal (+), and then the ground wire to the negative terminal. Put the protective cap on the positive terminal.
Warning! If the battery is connected incorrectly, serious damage to the generator and electrical equipment may occur.
Lubricate the battery terminals with Vaseline or terminal grease (e.g. BOSCH).
After connecting the battery, idle the engine for about 3 minutes. After reaching operating temperature (the coolant indicator should be in the middle of the scale), add some gas and continue to idle the engine for two minutes at 1200/min. This will allow the module to remember the idle speed and other operating parameters again. Finally, it is recommended to drive about 8 km at various speeds to complete the warm-up process and establish normal engine operation.
Set the clock to the current time.
