Removing and installing the battery

            0

The battery is located on the left side of the engine compartment.

Attention! Disconnecting the battery in the vehicle erases the memory of the following electronic devices:
  • The fuel injection control unit clears the operating parameters of engine rotation. These are, for example, idle speed control parameters individually selected for this engine. Therefore, after connecting the battery, a temporary decrease in driving performance is observed (engine misfiring, idling) car.
  • All accumulated errors of the injection and ignition systems are erased from the error memory.
  • The key code of the anti-theft device and transmitters is erased in the radio. Anti-theft coding is only available for standard radios. If the anti-theft code is not known, only a FORD workshop can operate the radio.

To prevent this memory from being erased, the repair shop uses a special Lowener and Mabeco wire connected to a 9V dry battery and plugged into the cigarette lighter.

If there is no such wire, then before disconnecting the battery, make sure that the anti-theft code of the radio is set and the error memory is read (work in a repair shop).

Withdrawal

Open the engine hood.

Attention! before disconnecting the battery cable. check that all current consumers in the vehicle are disconnected.

Disconnect the battery wires, wire first "masses" -1- (-), then positive wire -2- (+), by opening the cover -3- first.

Unscrew fastening nuts -4- and remove retaining plate -5-.

Remove the battery -6-.

Attention! Batteries contain toxic substances and should not be disposed of in the city dump. When purchasing a new battery, take the old battery to the dealer or take it to a special waste depot. Check with the city authorities for its location.

Installation

Before installing the battery, clean its poles to a shine. To prevent corrosion, lubricate both poles with a special anti-acid protective grease, such as BOSCH pole grease.

Install the battery. Fasten the retaining plate with nuts.

Attention! Before connecting the battery wires, check that all current consumers in the vehicle are disconnected. Otherwise, when connecting wires, sparks or damage to electrical equipment may occur. Pay attention to the strength of the connection "masses" and reliability of contacts. High transient resistances lead, especially when starting the vehicle, to overload the electronic control devices and can even cause them to fail.

Connect the positive wire to the positive pole (+), and then the wire "masses" to the negative pole. Put the protective cap on the positive pole.

Attention! If the battery is connected incorrectly, serious damage to the generator and electrical equipment is possible.

Lubricate the battery terminals with Vaseline or terminal grease (e.g. BOSCH).

After connecting the battery, run the engine at idle speed for about 3 minutes. After reaching operating temperature (the coolant indicator should be in the middle of the scale) add a little gas and rotate the engine further for two minutes at a speed of 1200 / min. Thanks to this, the idle parameters and other operating parameters are again stored in the module. In conclusion, it is recommended to drive for a distance of about 8 km at various speeds so that the process of entering the operating mode is completed and normal engine operation is established.

Set the clock to the current time.

Set the anti-theft code of the radio, refer to the instruction manual of the radio or clause 22.5.

Enter the frequency of radio stations into memory.
