Battery self-discharge

Depending on the equipment of the vehicle, the current consumption of various devices at rest is also added to the natural spontaneous discharge of the battery. The battery should therefore be recharged approximately once every six weeks, even when the vehicle is not in use. If leakage currents are suspected, check the on-board network according to the following instructions:

Use a charged battery to test.

Set on the ammeter measuring ranges 0-5 mA and 0-5 A) the highest measuring range. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery.

Attention! As a result, operating parameters are erased from the memory of the electronic injection control device, and the key code of the anti-theft device and the set frequencies of radio stations are erased from the radio memory. Therefore, before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions for "Removing and installing the battery".

Connect an ammeter between the negative pole of the battery and the wire connecting its pole to "weight" car.

Attention! You can also check with a test lamp. If, when turned on between the wire "masses" and minus the battery, the lamp does not light, use an ammeter just in case.

Turn off all consumers, including clocks and other permanently connected devices, close the doors.

Switch from A-range to mA-ranges until you can read the ammeter (1-3 mA are considered acceptable).

Break the electrical circuits of various current consumers by removing their fuses. If, when one of the circuit fuses is removed, the ammeter readings drop to zero, then a malfunction is contained in this circuit. Cause of malfunction (leakage current) it can be: corrosion and contamination of contacts, frayed electrical wires, internal short circuit in the unit.

If no fault is found in the fused circuits, disconnect the wires of the unfused units. These include: generator, starter, ignition device.

If, when one of these units is disconnected, the ammeter reading drops to zero, then the corresponding unit must be repaired or replaced. In the event of a current leak in the starter or igniter, always also check the ignition/starter switch according to the wiring diagram.

Connect the wire "masses" (-) to the battery.

Set the current time on the clock.

Enter the anti-theft code into the radio's memory.
