Removing and installing the starter (Mondeo 1)

Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery.

Warning! This will erase data in electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory device or the radio code. Please read the section carefully "Removing and installing the battery", before disconnecting it.


Removing the starter of a carburetor engine



Disconnect the multi-pin connector from the MAF sensor, see p. 5.6.

Remove the air filter, see p. 5.6.

Unscrew the upper bolts securing the starter. At the same time, unscrew the ground wire going to the engine.

Raise the car.

Raise the car.


Unscrew the starter wire and disconnect.



Unscrew the starter wire and disconnect.


Unscrew the lower starter mounting bolt and remove the starter.

Installation



Install the starter. Screw in the lower mounting bolt and tighten to 35 Nm.

Connect the starter wire.

Tighten the upper mounting bolts to 35 Nm. At the same time, tighten the ground wire to the engine.

Install the air filter, see p. 5.6.

Connect the battery ground (-) wire.

Set the current time on the clock.

Enter the radio anti-theft code into memory.

Removing the turbodiesel starter



Raise the car.

Remove the lower engine cover, see p. 2.4.

Remove the front engine mount, see p. 1.2.

Remove the front engine mount, see p. 1.2.


Unscrew the starter wire and remove it.

Unscrew the starter wire and remove it.


Unscrew the mounting bolt "1" on the clutch housing, as well as bolt "2" on the holder and remove the starter.



Installation



Install and screw in the starter. Tighten the bolts on the clutch housing to 45 Nm and the bolt on the support bracket to 35 Nm.

Connect the starter wire, see "Removal".

Install the front engine mount, see p. 1.2.

Lower the car to the ground.

Connect the battery ground wire.

Set the clock to the current time.

Set the radio anti-theft code.
