Removing and installing the starter (Focus 2)

The starter is mounted on the clutch housing on the rear side of the power unit.

You will need: a 13 mm wrench, 10 mm and 13 mm socket heads.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. …and disconnect the starter wiring harness connector.

3. …and disconnect the starter wiring harness connector.


4. Disconnect the connector from the holder on the wiring harness.

5. Loosen the lower starter mounting bolt…

6. …finally unscrew and remove the bolt.

NOTE: The same bolt that secures the starter also secures the wire harness bracket. Be sure to install it during assembly.

7. Remove the two upper starter mounting bolts…

NOTE: The left upper bolt holds the ground wire. Be sure to connect it during assembly.

8. …move the starter away from the cylinder block and lower it down.

9. Unscrew the two nuts securing the wires to the terminals of the traction relay…

10. …disconnect the wires and remove the starter.

11. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
