General information about the generator (Mondeo 1)

Ford Mondeo is equipped with a three-phase current generator from Bosch, Mitsubishi or Ford. Depending on the model and equipment, generators of different power are installed.

The generator is driven by the crankshaft via a V-belt, with the rotor rotating inside the stationary starter winding at twice the engine speed using the excitation winding.

The excitation current flows through the graphite brushes and slip rings into the excitation winding. This creates a magnetic field. The position of the magnetic field relative to the stator winding constantly changes in accordance with the rotation of the rotor. As a result, alternating current flows in the stator winding.

Since the battery is charged by the generator, the three-phase current is converted into direct current via rectifiers mounted on the diode board. The voltage regulator changes the charging current by switching the excitation current on and off according to the state of charge of the battery. At the same time, the regulator maintains the operating voltage constant at about 14 V, regardless of the number of revolutions.
