Belt replacement
Unscrew the wheel arch trim -1-. Unscrew the protective cover of the V-belt.
Four-cylinder petrol engine
The V-belt drives all auxiliary units. The belt is tensioned automatically by the tension roller. The figure below shows the layout and operation of the belt.
1 - Hydraulic power steering pump; 2 - Guide roller; 3 - Generator; 4 - Automatic tension roller; 5 - Air conditioning compressor (if there); 6 - Crankshaft gear (vibration damper); 7 - Coolant pump pulley
Press the tension roller with a wrench, counteracting the force of the spring - arrow. As a result, tension is removed from the roller. Remove the V-belt.
To lay the V-belt, press the tension roller in the direction of the arrow.
Install and screw on the protective covers.
Diesel engine
Auxiliary units are driven by separate V-belts. Belt tension can be adjusted using the tension bolts.
1 - Crankshaft gear (vibration dampener); 2 - V-belt; 3 - Tension roller; 4 - Generator; 5 - Holder; 6 - Power steering pump; 7 - Air conditioning compressor (where there is)
Alternator V-belt: Loosen the central nut -3- of the tensioning roller, but do not unscrew it. Loosen bolt -1- and remove V-belt.
Lay a new V-belt, fix the tension roller with the bolt -1-.
Check the V-belt tension at point -2- between the alternator and the crankshaft pulley. When pressed with your thumb, the new V-belt should sag no more than 2 mm. A used V-belt should not bend more than 4 mm.
Finally, tighten the central bolt of the tensioning roller -3- to 24 Nm.
Power steering pump V-belt: unscrew the bolt -1- and remove the cover.
Slightly loosen the bearing bolt -2- of the oil pump, but do not unscrew it.
Loosen the bearing bolts -1- on the power steering pump and -3- on the tensioner, but do not unscrew them. Release the bolt -2- and remove the V-belt.
Lay a new V-belt and tighten the bolt -2-. When pressing with your thumb on the V-belt, it should sag no more than 1 mm.
Tighten the bearing bolts on the power steering pump and tensioner to 25 Nm.
Screw on the protective cover of the belt with two bolts.
A/C compressor V-belt: Loosen clamping bolt -1- and remove V-belt -2-.
Lay a new V-belt and tighten it with the bolt -1-. When pressing on the belt with your thumb, it should sag no more than 2 mm.
