Removal and installation of the camshaft

            0

Attention! If the parts of the gas distribution mechanism are to be used again, then they must be installed in the place where they already stood. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to prepare a shelf for laying out parts.

Withdrawal

Turn the crankshaft so that the piston in the first cylinder is at TDC. Loosen the tension of the toothed belt and remove it only at the top from the camshaft sprocket, see point 1.7.

Remove the cylinder head cover.

Fix the camshaft sprocket in front with a mandrel. To do this, slide a mandrel or a strong screwdriver into the hole in the sprocket and rest it against the upper edge of the block head. To prevent damage to the sealing surface of the head, it is necessary to place a wooden block. Hold the screwdriver firmly and loosen the camshaft sprocket, if necessary, it can be easily tapped with a rubber mallet.

First remove bearing caps 5, 1 and 3. The first bearing cap is located on the toothed belt side, the fifth bearing cap is located on the gearbox side. After that, alternately release the bolts of covers 2 and 4 crosswise.

Attention! The insert of the first bearing from the side of the toothed belt of the engine has an additional one. insert located inside.

Take out the distributor.

Attention! If you are going to remove the bucket tappets, then they must first be marked so that they can be reinstalled in their original place during assembly.

Installation

If a used camshaft is reinstalled in engines with high mileage or with noise in the valve drive, the axial clearance must be checked. Limit wear: 0.24 mm. The measurements are carried out with the poppets removed and the covers of the first and fifth bearings installed.

On the bearing cap 1, on its contact surface with the cylinder head, apply a thin layer of a conventional sealing compound, for example, Loctite 518.

Install the bearing cap exactly in the same position as it was installed.

If you removed the poppet pushers, install them exactly in the same place where they were already installed. Lubricate the bucket tappets with a thin layer of oil, do not allow them to warp.

Attention! Avoid confusion with bucket tappets.

Lubricate and install the camshaft.

Attention! The cam for cylinder 1 must point upwards. Install covers according to numbering.

Tighten bearing caps 2 and 4 alternately crosswise to 20 Nm.

Fit and tighten bearing caps 5, 1 and 3 to 20 Nm. Fit the fifth bearing cap under the end surface of the camshaft by lightly tapping it with a hammer.

Lubricate a new shaft seal with a light coat of oil, install it using the Ford special tool 21-110. If there is no such tool, then the sealing ring can be driven using a piece of pipe, just make sure that the inner and outer diameters of the ring and pipe are the same.

Install the camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolt by hand.

Lay the toothed belt on the camshaft sprocket. Adjust the valve timing, see point 1.7.

Pull the toothed belt see point 1.8.

Adjust valve clearances see paragraph 1.17.

Install the cylinder head cover.

Install the top toothed belt guard.
