Removal and installation of camshafts (gasoline)

            0

Four-cylinder petrol engine.

Attention! If the parts of the valve timing mechanism are to be used again, they can only be installed in their original places. Therefore, we recommend making a shelf for unfolding parts.

Withdrawal

Remove the toothed belt see point 1.3.

Unscrew the camshaft sprockets, use the Ford 15-030 key to keep the shafts from turning.

Loosen the camshaft cap bolts 1/2 turn in pairs, following the sequence shown in the figure. Repeat this process in the same order until the bolts are completely unscrewed.

Remove bearing caps, camshafts and radial seals.

Installation

Apply a conventional sealing compound, eg Loctite 5, to the sealing surface between the bearing caps and the cylinder head, do this on the first bearing cap, toothed belt side -arrows-.

Install the bearing caps and camshafts in the same order in which they were removed. Lay the adjustment ruler Ford 21-162, see clause 1.3., "Withdrawal".

Attention! Bearing caps are numbered for ease of reassembly. The numbering starts on the exhaust manifold side and it starts with "0". The intake camshaft is recognized by an additional cam at the end of the shaft for the CID sensor.

Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the bolts in stages, tightening an additional 1/2 turn each time, being careful not to skew the camshafts. Finally, tighten all bolts to a torque of 10 Nm first and then 20 Nm.

Lightly lubricate the new shaft seals with engine oil and install them using the Ford special tool 21-009B. The shaft seals should sit 1.5mm below the edge of the hole. If there is no special tool, then the sealing rings can be driven using a pipe whose inner and outer diameters are equal to the inner and outer diameters of the ring.

Install the camshaft sprockets. tighten the fixing bolts with a torque of 70 Nm. At the same time, use a wrench to keep the camshaft from turning.

Install the toothed belt, complete the engine, see point 1.3.
