Removal


WARNING: Do not smoke or carry a lighted cigarette or open flame of any type when working with or near fuel-related items. Highly flammable mixtures are always present in such situations and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: This procedure involves handling fuel. Always be prepared for possible fuel splashing and follow proper fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Section 310-00 for additional information.

2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.

3. Disconnect the vehicle speed control cable (if equipped).
  • 1. Disconnect the cable from the throttle body.
  • 2. Disconnect the vehicle speed control cable from the throttle body.



4. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
  • 1. Remove the clamp and disconnect the inner cable from the throttle body.
  • 2. Turn the outer cable sheath.
  • 3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body.



5. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet pipe.




6. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector.



7. Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pressure sensor.



8. Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pressure pulsation damper (the engine is shown removed for clarity).



9. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail (engine shown removed for clarity). Refer to Section 310-00 for additional information.




10. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.



11. Remove the fuel manifold (the engine is shown removed for clarity).



12. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail. Slide the clamp to release the injector.



13. Remove the O-rings and discard them as no longer needed.




Installation

CAUTION: Do not use silicone grease to lubricate the fuel injector O-rings as this will cause the fuel injectors to clog.

NOTE: Install new fuel injector O-rings.


Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
  • To facilitate installation, lubricate the fuel injector O-rings with clean engine oil.
