Removal
1. Remove the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.
2. Remove the camshaft oil seal. For more information, refer to the Camshaft Seal chapter in this section.
3. Check the valve clearances. For more information, refer to the Valve Clearance chapter in this section.
4. Remove the oil catch can.

CAUTION: Loosen camshaft bearing cap nuts Nos. 1, 3 and 5 one turn each so as to release the camshaft.
NOTE: Keep the camshaft bearing caps and bolts in good condition.
Remove the camshaft. Discard the camshaft oil seals as they are no longer needed.

NOTE: Keep valve lifters and shims in good condition.
Remove the valve lifters and adjusting shims.

Installation
1.
NOTE: Lubricate the valve lifters and adjusting shims with clean engine oil.
Install the valve lifters and adjusting shims.

2.
NOTE: The larger semicircle should face up.
Install the camshaft.

3.
NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the camshaft bearing caps.
Install the camshaft bearing caps. Apply sealant to the marked surfaces of bearing cap No.1.

4. Check the valve clearances. For more information, refer to the Valve Clearance chapter in this section.
5. Install the oil catch can.

6. Install the camshaft oil seal. For more information, refer to the Camshaft Seal chapter in this section.
7. Install the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.
