Front crankshaft seal — removal and installation

Special tool

	Universal wrench for holding flanges 205-072 (15-030A)
	Protractor for tightening bolts 303-174 (21-540)
	Crankshaft Seal Remover 303-293 (21-143)
	Oil pump alignment tool 303-652 (21-230)

Withdrawal

1. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Section 303-05 for more information.

2. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley. Discard the bolt as it is no longer needed.



3. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft seal. Discard the seal as it is no longer needed.

Installation

All cars


1.

NOTE: Install a new crankshaft front seal.

Using the special tool, install the crankshaft front seal.



Vehicles without a fuel injection system with a common fuel rail

NOTE: Install a new crankshaft pulley bolt.

Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley.

• Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt in two stages.
• Stage 1: 90 Nm
• Stage 2: 90 degrees

Vehicles with Common Rail Fuel Injection

NOTE: Install a new crankshaft pulley bolt.

Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley.

• Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt in two stages.
• Stage 1: 110 Nm
• Stage 2: 255 Nm

All cars

4. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Section 303-05 for more information.
