NOTE: Check that the gear shift lever is in neutral position.
Remove the gear shift boot and trim from the center console.
Cars manufactured up to 10.2001.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.
3. Disconnect the shift/selector cable adjustment mechanism locking insert.
- Insert the orange insert into the adjustment mechanism.
4. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE: The special tool is yellow.
Using the special tool, lock the gear shift lever.
- 1. Pull the reverse gear lock up.
- 2. Insert the special tool.
6. Turn the special tool approximately 45 degrees clockwise to lock the shift mechanism.
7. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

NOTE: The shift/selector levers are in neutral when they are in the vertical position.
Place the shift/selector lever in neutral (shift cables not shown).

NOTE: Make sure the orange insert returns to the locked position.
Adjust the gear shift cable. Press the adjuster clamp.

NOTE: Make sure the orange insert returns to the locked position.
Adjust the gear selector cable. Press the adjuster clamp.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Turn the special tool counterclockwise 45 degrees to unlock the shift mechanism.
13. Remove the special tool.
Cars manufactured since 10.2001.
14. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

NOTE: Press the shift cable lock buttons.
Disconnect the shift cables from the transmission.
- 1. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift mechanism base.
- 2. Disconnect the gear selector cable from the selector lever.
16. Disconnect the shift/selector cable adjustment mechanism locking insert.
17. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE: The special tool is red.
Using the special tool, lock the gear shift lever.
- 1. Pull the reverse gear lock up.
- 2. Insert the special tool.
19. Turn the special tool approximately 45 degrees clockwise to lock the shift mechanism.
20. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

NOTE: Third gear is engaged when the corner piece is parallel to the base plate as shown (shift cables not shown).
Engage third gear.

NOTE: The gear selector cable is marked black.
Connect the gear selector cable to the selector lever. Press the locking button.

NOTE: Make sure the orange insert returns to the locked position.
Adjust the gear selector cable. Press the orange insert in the adjustment mechanism.
24. Shift the gearbox into neutral.

NOTE: The shift cable has a white marking.
Connect the gear shift cable to the base of the gear shift mechanism. Press the locking button.

NOTE: Make sure the orange insert returns to the locking position.
Adjust the gear shift cable. Press the orange insert in the adjustment mechanism.
27. Lower the vehicle.
28. Turn the special tool counterclockwise 45 degrees to unlock the shift mechanism.
29. Remove the special tool.
- 1. Pull the reverse gear lock up.
- 2. Disconnect the special tool.
All cars
30. Install the gear shift boot and trim onto the center console.
