Secondary Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

2. Place a drain pan under the secondary shaft speed sensor (OSS).

3. Remove the OSS sensor.

• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Remove the bolt.
• Inspect the channel for the OSS sensor.

4. Inspect the O-ring for cracks and cuts; install a new ring if necessary.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the O-ring before installing it.

NOTE: Apply thread sealant to the bolt.

Install the OSS sensor. Connect the electrical connector.



2. Lower the vehicle.



3. Check the transmission fluid level, add transmission fluid if necessary.



4. Start the engine and move the manual gear selector lever through all ranges.
