Gear Selector Lever — Removal and Installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.

2. Remove the gear selector lever cable from the gear selector.

• 1. Shift the gear selector lever to position "P".
• 2. Release the gear selector lever cable.

3. Release the outer sleeve of the gear selector lever cable.



3. Disconnect the gear selector lever assembly electrical connector.



4. Remove the gear selector lever assembly. Remove the four nuts.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Use thread locking compound on nuts.

Install the gear selector lever assembly. Install the four nuts.



2. Connect the gear selector lever assembly electrical connector.



3.

NOTE: The gear selector lever has its own locking mechanism. There is no need to hold the gear selector lever.

Connect the cable to the gear selector lever.

• 1. Shift the gear selector lever to position "P".
• 2. Secure the outer sleeve of the gear selector lever cable.
• 3. Secure the gear selector lever cable.

4. Install the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.



5. Adjust the system. For more information, refer to the Adjusting the Gear Selector Lever chapter in this section.
