Gearbox B5 and iB5
Engage 2nd gear on a four-speed gearbox or 4th gear on a five-speed gearbox. Unscrew and remove the gearshift lever knob. Using a lever, remove the gearshift lever protective cover and remove it up the lever (see Fig. 7A.7, 7A.8).
Loosen the 4 gear shift mechanism mounting nuts (see Fig. 7A.9).
Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Unscrew the exhaust system from the exhaust pipe. Disconnect the rubber mounts of the exhaust system and remove the exhaust system. On models with a catalytic converter, remove the heat shield from the underside of the vehicle to access the transmission control mechanism (see Fig. 7A.10).
Mark the gear shift shaft and gear shift rod, then unscrew the clamp bolt and remove the rod from the shaft. Unscrew the gear shift stabilizer mounting bolt. Support the gear shift mechanism from below. Unscrew the 4 nuts and remove the mechanism from under the car (see Fig. 7A.11).
Gearbox MTX-75
Unscrew and remove the gear shift knob, then use a pry bar to remove the gear shift boot and slide it up the lever.
Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Set the gearshift lever to neutral.
Remove the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter. To access the gearshift mechanism, remove the heat shield. Unscrew the bolt securing the gearshift rod to the shaft, on the rear side of the gearbox (see Fig. 7A.12).
Mark the position of the front and rear sections of the gearshift rod relative to each other. Loosen the clamp bolt and remove the front section of the gearshift rod (see Fig. 7A.13).
Remove the bolt securing the shift support rod to the suspension at the rear of the transmission. While supporting the shift mechanism, remove the mounting nuts and remove the shift mechanism from underneath the vehicle.
Installation. All models
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When installing, lubricate the pivot points with a thin layer of grease.
