Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. On 4-speed gearboxes, select 2nd gear, on 5-speed gearboxes - 4th gear. Loosen the clamp bolt at the end of the shift link and remove the link from the selector shaft by sliding it away from the transmission. Move the selector shaft back and forth to find the center position. Then, turning the shaft left and right, also find its center position. In this position, insert a suitable rod or screwdriver into the shaft and press the shaft into the gearbox until it stops (see fig. 7A.2-7A.4).

Insert a rod or drill with a diameter of 3.5 mm into the hole. 8 shift housing and lever, and secure the stem with a rubber band (see fig. 7A.5).

Attention. Insert locking pin only on the left side, looking in the direction of travel.

Clean the mating surfaces of the shift link and shift shaft from grease, then connect the shift link to the shaft and tighten the clamping bolt to the required torque.

Remove the shift blocking pin, check the correct engagement of each gear.

Lower the car.

Using a lever, remove the protective cover of the gear lever from the center console.

Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the front wheels. Place the shift lever in neutral position.

Loosen the shift rod clamp bolt located at the rear of the gearbox.

Inside the vehicle, loosen the 4 bolts securing the shift cover to the body and align the cover. This is especially important if the adjustment is made after removing and installing the gearbox. Retighten the bolts.

Install the Ford special tool 16-064 on the gear lever in neutral position and install it in the recess of the lever. By rotating the tool clockwise, move it to the lever lock in the neutral position. During the adjustment process, do not move the gear lever or special tool.

Check that the forward part of the shift rod is in the neutral position. Check that the adjusting tool is correctly positioned on the shift lever, then tighten the clamp bolt on the shift rod.

Remove the special adjustment tool from the transmission control lever. Lower the vehicle and place the boot on the shift lever.
