General information (Escort 5)

The gearbox converts the torque transmitted from the engine in magnitude and direction. There are 3 types of manual gearboxes installed on cars.

Most cars are equipped with 4- or 5-speed gearboxes and are designated B5 or iB5. Some cars with Zetec and Zetec-E engines are equipped with 5-speed MTX-75 gearboxes.

The gearbox is mounted transversely in the engine compartment and is bolted to the engine block. The gearbox is lubricated independently of the engine.
