Replacing the tie rod ends (Focus Turnier 1)

The tie rod heads are screwed together on the right and left sides of the tie rod respectively. Advantage: if the tie rod heads are defective, there is no need to replace the entire tie rod assembly.

Stages of work



Securely support the car on a level surface and remove the front wheel;

Disconnect the tie rod end self-locking nut at the steering knuckle joint. Install a puller with a claw or with a ball joint (Ford 13-006).

Press the tie rod head out of the steering knuckle. Unscrew the nut.

With a little luck, after replacing the tie rod head, you will be spared from adjusting the distance between the wheels. Before dismantling, write down the screwing size X and transfer it to the new tie rod head. If the car does not pull to one side after repair, then you can skip the measurements


Loosen the clamping nut on the tie rod head and unscrew the tailpiece. Count the number of free threads of the head outside the tie rod. Mount the head with the same installation length: If you work accurately, you may be spared from adjusting the distance between the wheels.
