Replacement of tie rod ends

            0

The tips, respectively on the left and right, are screwed to the tie rod. Advantage: if there are defective ends, the entire tie rod does not have to be replaced.

PROCEDURE
  1. On level ground, securely jack up the vehicle and remove the front wheel.
  2. First, loosen the self-locking nut of the tie rod end on the steering knuckle arm a few turns and...
  3. ... press the tip out of the knuckle arm using a cam puller or ball joints. Completely unscrew the nut and pull the tip out of the steering knuckle arm.
  4. Next, loosen the clamp nut on the tip and unscrew the end piece from the tie rod. However, do not forget to first accurately calculate «free» threaded turns of the tip outside the tie rod. Then install a new tip with the same «long» installation. If you have strictly followed everything, this will avoid the subsequent correction of the toe-in.

A little «luck» will not interfere after replacing the tie rod end. Before dismantling, measure «X» and use it when installing a new handpiece. If the vehicle does not drive after the repair, the geometry check measurements can be waived.

Tie rod ends must always be fitted with new self-locking nuts.
