Replacing the steering gear pivot bearing (Mondeo 3)

Dismantling

ORDER OF EXECUTION

Unscrew the wheel hub nut and wheel bolts.
On a level surface, securely place the car on jack stands and remove the front wheel.
Remove the ABS wheel sensor from the shock absorber strut bracket (indicated by the arrow).

Removing the ABS wheel sensor.
Remove the brake caliper as described above and secure it in the wheel well with wire. Be careful not to damage the brake hose.
Unscrew the brake disc safety screws and pull the disc out of the wheel well. Release firmly seated discs by precise blows with a hammer (plastic hammer). Another option is to use a puller.

Mondeo with diesel engine
Remove the lower engine trim.

All models
Remove the front guard on the subframe (shown by arrows).

Removing the front protection.
Remove the wishbone from the pivot bearing as described above.
Remove the shock absorber strut clamp screw.
Using a three-arm puller as described above, press the drive shaft out of the wheel hub and support the shaft.
Remove the swivel support.
Depending on the vehicle model, carry out installation in reverse order.
To do this, install the pivot support on the shock absorber strut and align it.
Immediately press the pivot bearing onto the pivot shaft as soon as the first threads are free and fit the shaft with a new axle nut.
Press the ball joint in the swivel support from below until it stops.
Check the free play of all brake components and connect the ABS sensor.
Place the car on its wheels, press the brake pedal and tighten the wheel hub nut to 290 N·m. Don't forget about the wheel bolts.
