Replacing the front wishbone (Mondeo 3)

A deformed wishbone in a new Mondeo can only be replaced completely. It is better to delegate this work to a workshop (see the section Checking the wishbone bearing). However, if you are relying on yourself, then we can send you the relevant manual. But after this work, in any case, it is necessary to take measurements and adjust the front axle in a special workshop.

ORDER OF EXECUTION

Set the handbrake, loosen the wheel nuts. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Additionally, secure the rear axle with a wheel chock. Remove the front wheel. Mondeo with diesel engine Remove the engine cover. Mondeo with gas discharge headlights The left wishbone is connected to the headlight axis tilt sensor. The sensor must be removed first. All models Remove the front radiator guard from the subframe and... ...lower the auxiliary frame on the appropriate side. Support the released frame with a suitable hydraulic jack. Then proceed in the following order. Lower and support the auxiliary frame. Remove the rear subframe screws and subframe holder mounting screws. On the opposite side, loosen the screws five turns. Remove the front mounting screws. Loosen the opposite screws five turns. Lower the subframe, the wishbone bolt is now easily accessible. To avoid damaging the wishbone bearings, be sure to lower the auxiliary frame before loosening the ball joint (indicated by the arrow). Disconnect both bearing locations and remove the control arm. Remove the ball joint clamp screw and nut, remove the heat shield. Protect the ball joint rubber gasket with a soft cloth. Removing the transverse suspension arm Reassemble in reverse order. Use new screws and nuts. Tighten the bearing locations firmly and completely when your Mondeo is back on the ground with its wheels. Don't forget to mount the heat shield (the mounting locations are indicated by arrows), align the subframe under the front wheels and then secure immediately. Installation of thermal protection. Take a test drive, then check all screw connections and after that, in any case, take your Mondeo to a station for optical axle inspection and front axle geometry adjustment.
