Dismantling and installation of shock absorber struts (Mondeo 3)

ORDER OF EXECUTION
  1. On a level surface, securely place the vehicle on jack stands and remove the corresponding front wheel.
  2. On the shock absorber strut, release the brake hose holder and the stabilizer connecting rod.
  3. Remove the disc brake caliper together with the brake shield (indicated by arrows) from the pivot support and hang them with wire in the wheel arch.

  4. Remove the engine cover and...

  5. ...reflector from the auxiliary frame.
  6. Lower the corresponding side of the subframe as described above and remove the ball joint.
  7. Remove the clamp screw (indicated by the arrow) from the shock absorber strut.

  8. Support the drive shaft. The maximum allowable bending angle of the inner joint is 18° and the outer joint, respectively, 45°. Separate the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut and...
  9. ...remove the pillar trim in the engine compartment.
  10. Remove the shock absorber strut and have an assistant support it while doing so.
  11. Carry out the installation in the reverse order. For installation, it is necessary that the rack is strictly centered between the projections of the shock absorber rack. Make sure that the arrow and the white line at the top point forward.
  12. Tighten the upper screws fully only when the steering column pivot support with the shock absorber strut is locked in its mounting position.
  13. Carry out a test drive, then check all screw connections and then take your Mondeo to a station for optical inspection and adjustment of the front axle geometry in each case.
