Control Arm Bearing Check

            0

Complete replacement only: L-shaped wishbone

1 - Vertical rubber bearing,
2 - ball head,

3 - Horizontal rubber bearing.

The two bearings and the front wishbone ball joint are maintenance free. The outer ball joint is housed in a plastic bowl filled with long-term grease. However, the control arm should be regularly inspected and «wring out» Clearance with pry bar: Penetrated dirt and moisture leave marks, they act as an abrasive paste. Hence the consequences: the hinges are knocked out and the bearings are corroded.

PROCEDURE
  1. Turn the steering gear all the way to the right and left.
  2. Visually inspect both ball joints for damage. To do this, install the mounting lever and check the clearance.
  3. Check both hinges in the same way and think about what the hinges originally had (must) known elasticity. As soon as the mounting lever is turned «without resistance», hinges and thus the entire transverse arm can be scrapped.

As an experienced amateur, you should immediately think about such self-help first. However, we consider you to advise against this: this work does not end with the replacement of the transverse arm: after the repair, it is necessary to measure the entire front axle. Therefore, from the very beginning it is better to contact a specialized workshop.
