Replacing the steering gear cuffs (Mondeo 3)

ORDER OF EXECUTION

Remove the tie rod ends as described above and accurately count the number of threads when unscrewing (see Replacing the tie rod ends).

Remove the engine cover.
When replacing the left cuff, you must first remove the wheel arch trim.

All models
Remove the tie rod end lock nut and clean the rod.
Now pull the ventilation tube 1 out of the rubber cuff and "break" the pressure strips 2.

Remove the vent tube and "crack" the clamps.
Depending on the model, install in reverse order. Don't forget to clean and lightly lubricate the tie rod before installation.
Carefully pull the new seals onto the tie rod. Also lightly lubricate the seals at both ends beforehand. Make sure that the seals do not rotate (the connection of the ventilation tube points upward) and that they sit correctly in the grooves of the tie rod and the steering gear housing. Otherwise, oil may leak out or the seal may break over time.
Secure the cuffs with new clamps and...
...re-measure the front axle geometry.
